EDITION 009DOCUMENTATION

Brilliant
Setup guide

Most of this theme installs in ten minutes. Two choices deserve care: the edition, Claire or Nuit, and the names of your product options, which decide what becomes a metal swatch and what becomes a size chip. Bought the theme? The same guide is in your package, offline.

1. Install the theme

  1. In your Shopify admin: Online Store → Themes.
  2. Add theme → Import a zip file.
  3. Pick brilliant.zip — the inner file from the package you downloaded, not the whole package.
  4. It appears in your library as Brilliant Studio, unpublished. Customize to work on it; publish when you are ready.

If Shopify says the file is not a valid theme, you have almost certainly uploaded the outer package. Unzip it first.

2. Claire or Nuit

The theme ships two theme styles. In the editor, open Theme settings and use Change theme style at the top: Claire is off-white paper with charcoal ink, Nuit is charcoal paper with ivory ink. Every colour follows, and the line drawings invert themselves so they stay legible on the dark ground.

  • Mode (Colours) tells the theme whether the surfaces are light or dark. It is set by the style; change it only if you build your own dark palette from Claire.
  • Colour scheme, on most sections: Default or Inverse. An inverse section swaps paper and ink for itself alone — a charcoal band on Claire, an ivory one on Nuit. The hero, the masterpiece and the testimonials ship inverse.
  • Nuit home page — the package includes a second home page template, index.nuit, with the hero mirrored (piece on the left, copy on the right) and the “Nuit Edition” eyebrow. Preview it with ?view=nuit on your store’s address, or set its sections on your home page in the editor.

3. Colours, typography, brand

  • Colours — surfaces (paper, warm paper, ink), the two gradients of the hero and masterpiece grounds, the gold accent and Gold — text on light (a darker champagne kept at 4.5:1 for eyebrows), the taupe lines, body and secondary text.
  • Typography — the theme ships Cormorant Garamond for headings (woff2, SIL Open Font License, no request to Google Fonts). The body face comes from Shopify’s font library, Inter by default. Switch the heading source to the library to pick any other font.
  • Brand — the wordmark and its italic word (“Brilliant” and “Studio” in the demo), or a logo image with its height (16 to 48 px), plus the share image used when a page has none.
  • Product tilesImage fit: Contain keeps a packshot or a drawing whole on the tile’s ground; Cover fills the frame with a photograph. Badge source, material tags and their count live here too.
  • Header — transparent over a full-height hero (off, and it is always solid), kept on screen while scrolling or not, the announcement bar above it with up to three rotating messages.

4. The home page

Ten sections are in place when you install, in this order:

  • HeroLayout puts the copy left or right; the piece sits in a fine gold frame (a 3:4 image works best) with an optional background photograph under an adjustable overlay. Until you set an image, the theme draws its own ring.
  • Brand values — four short promises between two hairlines.
  • Featured creations — pick a collection. Layout: the asymmetric mosaic (one tall tile, three portraits, one wide, repeating every five products) or a uniform three-column grid.
  • Category grid — one card per collection block; the card shows the collection’s own image, or a drawing. Name, count and link come from the collection unless you override them.
  • Masterpiece — the piece drawn large on a soft glow, image left or right, up to six specification blocks; the button links to the chosen product.
  • Image with text — two portrait images, the second lifted, your story beside them.
  • Testimonials — quotes with five stars, author and city.
  • Featured product — the full product layout on the home page.
  • Lookbook — six to eight square images and the house’s handle; link each image where you like.
  • Newsletter — one underlined field; the button reads “Thank you ✓” after sign-up.

Every section has Top spacing and Bottom spacing (0–200 px, steps of 4); small screens keep two thirds of the value. Twenty-three more sections wait under Add section. Every one carries translated demo copy: leave a field empty and the theme’s text shows in the visitor’s language; type anything and yours wins. Switch Use demo copy off once your content is in.

5. Products — swatches, sizes, gallery tone, badges, materials

The product page reads your option names:

Option namedRenders asDetail
Finition, Métal, Metal, Finish, Colour, ColorRound swatchesValues named yellow / jaune, rose / pink or white / blanc get the matching metal gradient, and the gallery ground takes that colour when the swatch is chosen. Shopify’s own colour or image swatches, when set on the option values, are used instead.
Taille, Size, Ring size, Tour de doigtSize chipsA size no available variant can reach is struck through. The Size guide link setting shows a link beside the label.

Both lists are editable in the product section settings, comma-separated.

  • Gallery tone — the metafield custom.gallery_tone (single line text: any CSS colour or gradient) fixes a product’s gallery ground, whatever the swatch. Without it, the ground follows the chosen finish.
  • Gallery position — left or right of the details, in the product section; on small screens the gallery becomes a snapping slider with dots.
  • Badge — the metafield custom.badge, or a tag starting with badge:, for example badge:New, shows at the top left of the tile.
  • Materials — the metafield custom.materials (list of single line text), or tags starting with mat: such as mat:18k gold, show as outlined labels under the title; plain tags are used when neither exists.
  • Accordions — rows on the product page: a title and a text or a page; the first can show the product description.
  • Express checkout buttons — off by default; switch them on in the product section once wallets are enabled under Settings → Payments.

6. Menus and pages

  • Header menu — Online Store → Navigation. Three or four links sit inline; a longer menu moves into the drawer earlier, so it never runs into the wordmark. A second menu can feed the mobile drawer.
  • Footer — a brand column with your address, then one menu per Menu block (three when you install), a legal menu or the shop policies, and payment logos.
  • Contact — template contact: the appointment form with salon blocks.
  • About — template about: page hero, your text as prose, then a masterpiece.
  • Client services — template faq.
  • Size guide — any page with the Size guide section, then point the product section’s Size guide link to it.

7. Filters, sort, recommendations

Filters come from Shopify’s free Search & Discovery app: install it, enable the filters you want, and the collection page shows a Filters button that opens them in a left drawer, with a count of the active ones. Without the app, the button simply does not appear. The sort control is the theme’s own menu; it keeps the active filters. Product recommendations under a product follow the pairs you set in the same app.

8. Illustrations

Eighteen line drawings ship with the theme — solitaire, halo and band rings, a pair of wedding bands, pendant, pearl and sapphire necklaces, earrings, a signature ring, a close-up, two atelier scenes and six looks. They fill every image slot until you set an image: tiles, gallery, cart, hero, categories, lookbook, masterpiece, sections. On the dark edition they invert themselves. They are released CC0, so you may keep them for good; the package also carries them as PNG.

9. Languages

The interface ships in English by default with a complete French translation included (locales/fr.json). To sell in French: Settings → Languages → Add language → French, then publish it. The storefront follows the language of the URL the visitor is on, demo copy included. The footer’s language and country selectors appear as soon as your store publishes more than one language or ships to more than one market.
