EDITION 004DOCUMENTATION

Lumiere
Setup guide

Everything installs in about 10 minutes, without code. Downloaded the theme? Your bundle contains this same guide as INSTALLATION.md.

1. Unpack, then upload

What you download is a bundle, not the theme itself. Inside it:

FileWhat it is
lumiere-theme.zipThe theme. This is the file you upload to Shopify.
INSTALLATION.mdThis guide, offline.
LICENSE.mdWhat you may and may not do with LUMIERE.
CHANGELOG.mdWhat's in this release.
  1. In your Shopify admin: Online Store → Themes.
  2. Under Theme library: Add theme → Upload zip file.
  3. Pick lumiere-theme.zip (the inner file — do not unzip it).
  4. LUMIERE appears in your library as a draft. Customize to set it up, Publish when you're ready — your live theme is untouched until then.

The most common mistake is uploading the outer bundle. Shopify will refuse it — it wants lumiere-theme.zip.

The theme is Online Store 2.0. It works on any Shopify plan, needs no app, and loads no third-party service.

2. First settings (10 minutes)

  • Logo & favicon — your logo and its width. Left empty, the theme shows your shop's name in the heading typeface.
  • Colours — four tokens drive everything: primary, accent, background, text. Borders, secondary text and overlays are derived from them automatically.
  • Typography — heading and body fonts from the Shopify library. Playfair Display and Inter by default.
  • Theme styledensity (compact, comfortable, spacious) multiplies every spacing value at once; border style switches the hairlines between none, hairline and bold.
  • Layout, buttons, inputs, icons, badges — container width, corner radius, button case and border, field background, icon stroke width. Each one drives a CSS variable used across the whole theme.

4. Included page templates

Create your pages in Online Store → Pages and assign the matching template ("Template" dropdown on the right):

Page to createHandleTemplate to assign
Contactcontactpage.contact
Wishlistwishlistpage.wishlist

These two matter: the header links to /pages/wishlist, and the contact form only appears on a page using the page.contact template. Search, blog, article, collection list, cart, 404, password, gift card and the whole customer account area are already included and need no setup.

5. Sections

28 sections are available from Add section, each with a ready preset:

  • Editorial — hero, slideshow, rich text, image with text, video banner, lookbook, gallery, multi-column, tabs, divider.
  • Commerce — featured collection, featured collections, related products, comparison, countdown, size guide.
  • Proof — testimonials, reviews, FAQ, logo list, trust badges, map.
  • Other — newsletter, blog posts, contact, wishlist, custom Liquid.

The Map section embeds no third-party frame on purpose: you supply a static image of your map and a link to the maps app of your choice, so nothing about your visitors leaves the store on page load. The Custom Liquid section is not checked by the theme — a syntax error there can break the page, so always preview before publishing.

6. Colour swatches

Theme settings → Colour swatches. One mapping per line, in the form Name: #hex:

Your option valueLine to add
EcruEcru: #f0e9dd
Bleu marineBleu marine: #1f2a44

The theme matches your product option values case-insensitively. A value that is a valid CSS colour on its own (black, #c0392b) works without mapping; anything unmapped falls back to a neutral grey rather than disappearing. Size and shape of the swatches are set in the same panel; the picker can also be switched to a dropdown under Variant pickers.

7. Cart & wishlist

  • Theme settings → Cartside drawer (the cart opens without leaving the page) or dedicated page. On "page", the drawer is not rendered at all and the header icon becomes a plain link.
  • Free shipping bar — set the threshold in cents (10000 = 100.00). Set it to 0 to hide the bar.
  • Order note — toggles the note field on the cart page.
  • Wishlist — saved in the visitor's browser, no account and no app required. Create the wishlist page (see above) so the header link resolves.
  • Express payment buttons — Apple Pay, Google Pay and Shop Pay on the product page, so a buyer can pay in one tap. Toggle them with Show express payment buttons on the product section. They come from Shopify, so they only appear once accelerated checkouts are on in Settings → Payments → Shopify Payments → Manage → Wallets, and each visitor only sees what their device supports.

8. Shopify Markets

Theme settings → Shopify Markets enables the country, language and currency selectors in the header. They post to Shopify's own localization form and return the visitor to the page they were on.

The market banner suggests a switch when the detected country differs from the current one. Detection uses Shopify's own endpoint — no third-party geolocation service, no visitor IP sent outside the store.

9. Translations

The storefront ships with complete English and French translations, and so does the theme editor — every setting label is translated, not just the shop-facing text.

Any other language goes through Shopify's standard system: Settings → Languages → Add language, then Online Store → Themes → ⋯ → Edit default theme content.

10. Good to know

  • Without JavaScript — collection filters, variant selection and the cart still work; the drawer falls back to the cart page.
  • Accessibility — every drawer and modal traps focus and restores it on close, the tabs section follows the ARIA pattern, tables are real tables with headers, and animations respect prefers-reduced-motion.
  • Product media — video and 3D models are supported in the product gallery.
  • Custom CSSTheme settings → Custom CSS is applied on every page. Handy for one-off tweaks, and the first place to look if something renders oddly.
