EDITION 011DOCUMENTATION
Ocre
Setup guide
About fifteen minutes. Two things deserve care: the main menu, written vertically in the side rail, and the five product metafields, which need storefront access or they stay invisible, with no error. Bought the theme? The same guide is in your package, offline, with a full reference of every setting.
1. Install the theme
- In your Shopify admin: Online Store → Themes.
- Add theme → Upload zip file.
- Pick
ocre.zip, the inner file from the package you downloaded, not the whole package. - OCRE appears in your library, unpublished. Customize to work on it with your own products; publish when you are ready. Your current theme stays live meanwhile.
If Shopify says the file is not a valid theme, you have almost certainly uploaded the outer package. Unzip it first.
3. The five product metafields
The material, weight, origin and warranty of each piece come from five
metafields in the custom namespace. All are optional: an
empty metafield simply hides the line that uses it.
| Metafield | Type | Where it shows |
|---|---|---|
custom.material | Single line text | Under product names (3D shelf, collection, hero card, “Goes well with”), next to the category on the product page, on the back of flip cards, in the specifications. |
custom.weight | Single line text | Back of flip cards, specifications. |
custom.made_in | Single line text | Specifications. |
custom.warranty | Single line text | Back of flip cards, specifications. |
custom.back_text | Multi-line text | Back of flip cards. When empty, the card shows the first 22 words of the description. |
- Settings → Custom data → Products → Add definition.
- Enter the exact namespace and key from the table and the type shown, plain text even for the weight: the theme prints the value as you type it.
- Turn on storefront access. Without it the theme cannot read the value, and the specifications stay empty with no error.
The small label above the product title combines the product type and the material, for example Seating · Oak & linen.
4. Page templates
Create the pages in Online Store → Pages, then pick the template in each page’s Theme template field.
| Page | Template | What it shows |
|---|---|---|
| Campaign | page.campaign | An intro and a horizontal strip of 4:5 shots. |
| About | page.about | An intro and a grid of values. |
| Help | page.faq | A FAQ with one answer open at a time, and a shipping table. |
| Contact | page.contact | The page content and a contact form. |
5. Theme settings
- Colours: accent (terracotta
#a8532e), ink, wood (the strokes of the furniture drawings), background, soft background, shelf gradient, borders, paragraphs and secondary text. Keep text at 4.5:1 or more against its background if you change them. - Logo: an image for the rail and the mobile header, or a single rail letter in the accent square; favicon.
- Cart: bottom drawer or cart page, the free-shipping bar and its threshold in your store currency, and the number of instalments shown under the price (0 hides it).
- Finish swatches: the option names shown as colour swatches (Finish, Finition, Color, Couleur by default) and a
Name:#hexlist as a fallback. Shopify’s native swatches come first. - Animations: one switch for the 3D effects (card tilt, flip cards, hero parallax). Motion is always off for visitors who ask for reduced motion.
6. Home page
Every section can be added to any page, moved and removed.
- Split hero: accent background, badge, heading, text, two buttons and a product card that tilts in 3D under the pointer, with parallax circles.
- Perks bar: up to six perks, each with an icon (truck, clock, shield, return arrow).
- 3D shelf: a carousel in perspective, 3 to 12 products from a collection; drag it, use the arrows, the dots or the arrow keys.
- Stats grid: up to eight figures with a caption, each on its own colour.
- Flip cards: four products whose card turns over on hover or tap; the back shows
custom.back_text, the material, weight and warranty, and an add button. - Also: campaign strip, values grid, FAQ and shipping, page intro and contact form.
7. Product page
The media column stays in place while the information scrolls; with several images, thumbnails show underneath and choosing a variant shows its image. The blocks can be reordered: category and material, title, price with instalments and the taxes mention, description, variant picker (swatches for finishes, buttons for the rest), specifications from the metafields, free text, buy buttons and app blocks.
- The buy bar sticks to the bottom of the screen while the visitor reads, with the quantity selector and Shopify’s dynamic checkout buttons.
- Preselect every option is off by default: the last option, the size for example, must be chosen before adding to cart.
- Goes well with shows Shopify’s product recommendations under the product.
8. Collection, cart, search
- Collection: a list where the hovered row grows, or a grid of tilting cards; visitors switch views and their choice is remembered. Filters from the Search & Discovery app show as pills, with a price filter and sorting, all usable without JavaScript.
- Cart: a sheet that slides up from the bottom of the screen, with the free-shipping progress bar; or the cart page, with the order note.
- Search: suggestions appear while the visitor types.
- Also included: journal and article, collections list, 404, customer account pages, password page and gift card.
9. Languages
The interface ships in English by default with a complete French translation, storefront and theme editor. To sell in French: Settings → Languages → Add language → French, then publish it. The text you type in sections is your own content: translate it with Shopify’s free Translate & Adapt app. The footer’s language and country selectors appear once your store has more than one language or country.
10. Good to know
Some features are built in but appear only once your store is set up for them:
- Dynamic checkout buttons (Shop Pay, Apple Pay…): turn the wallets on in Settings → Payments; they do not show while the store is password protected.
- Unit prices: they show when a variant has a unit price measurement.
- Recommendations: Shopify builds them from your sales and catalogue; a new store may show few at first.
- Collection filters: they need the free Search & Discovery app.
- Accessibility: the 3D shelf works with the keyboard and announces each change, flip cards have a button on each side, and the cart drawer keeps the focus inside until Escape closes it.
